Discover the quaint 17C buildings of ‘The Narrows’ and Broad Street with beautiful gallery, shops and welcoming cafes and browse the bustling community market. Knighton’s recently opened, volunteer-run Museum showcases the town’s varied social history from the drovers to the flannel weavers, trade to agriculture.
Look out for souring Red Kites, especially from the spectacular elevated views of gastro destination The Harp at Old Radnor. Enjoy the area’s nature trails, fishing, horse riding, motor biking and visiting heritage sites and there is even a top rally driving school just out of town. The fabulous astronomical observatory at The Spaceguard Centre has a stunning location above the town, housing a Planetarium and meteorite exhibition.
Offa’s Dyke
Offa was King of Mercia from 757 to 796AD and is said to have built his famous Dyke to separate his kingdom from Wales, though this is not official and the real history is shrouded in mystery. With a path running along this 177 mile/283km earthwork, it is one of Britain’s National Trails and runs from Sedbury, near Chepstow, to Prestatyn in Mid Wales and through the varied and little-frequented landscapes of the Welsh Marches. To walk the whole path takes on average about two weeks (with no break!).
