This scenic, 2 mile/3km) long reservoir is surrounded by steep hills, forestry and
farmland. This is a popular place to visit, a single lane tarmac road, crosses the ¼
mile/ 380m long dam. There are forestry walks on the far side. Here, the old railway
line is part of the Taff Trail cycle route and to the right leads gently uphill through
the Talybont Forest on the eastern side of the reservoir. The railway line to the left
is not easy access after ½ mile/800m. There are vehicle barriers here which are
sometimes closed, but there is a wheelchair/scooter wide gap. Most of the forestry
tracks near the reservoir get steeper as you climb higher. Lay-bys and car parks
alongside the Talybont-on-Usk to Pontsticill road offer good views of the reservoir
and surrounding hills. The lower Blaen-y-Glyn car park is the start of a relatively flat
walk to waterfalls. It is approx. 1.2km return. The path is stony and uneven in places
and there is a narrow kissing gate near the end waterfall so not suitable for
wheelchairs.
