2 Pontsticill Reservoir

Ponsticill Reservoir is surrounded by hills and forests in the central area of the
National Park. This popular area is a good site for watching birds. The Brecon
Mountain Railway and Merthyr Tydfil Sailing Club are close by.
How to get there: This site is located next to a minor road 3 miles/5km north-east of
Merthyr Tydfil, beyond the mountain railway. CF48 2UP should take you to the dam.

Public Transport: Buses 24 and 25 (TC) run from Merthyr to Ponsticill terminus, then a
short downhill walk to the dam.
Parking: There are several small roadside lay-bys and car parks alongside the reservoir,
some with slopes to the path. Parking is mainly on compacted stone and can be uneven.
Nearest EV Charging: Victoria Street Car Park, Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 3RN
Distance: Up to 2 miles/3.2km along the road – please note this road can be busy at
weekends.
Facilities: There are several pubs and cafes locally and also in Merthyr Tydfil.
Toilets: The nearest disabled toilets are at the mountain railway (see that entry).
