BRECON RFC
While results have been impressive, what has been even more signi cant has been the quality of rugby the team has produced, the team spirit and the commitment to training and to working for one another. Undoubtedly the management group of Martin Keylock, Huw Phillips and Paul Jones (Murphy) must be proud of what their young charges have achieved.
Our Minis and Juniors continue to thrive. They are the life blood of the club. Eighty ve percent of our current 1st XV squad started rugby in our Mini section and progressed through the Juniors and Youth teams. The volunteers who support, organise, coach and generally look after the young teams should be proud of their success. This year there have been two notable, unique achievements. The annual Mini Tournament had to be postponed for the rst time after suffering the fate of many matches during this wet winter. The re-arranged Tournament was
an outstanding event but incurred considerable extra work and Paul Amphlett and his team should be congratulated for ensuring that the reduced Tournament took place at all. The other notable achievement re ects on the great work done by our Junior sections. On April 17th Callun James Represented Wales in the Under 16 international against England at Ystrad Mynach. Cally is the Club’s rst capped player since Darren Harris played for Wales Under 20’s in 2012, following in the footsteps of Sam Hobbs. The whole Brecon Rugby Community wishes Cally future International success and will be watching his career very carefully.
The above is a brief summary of the season and is just my personal view. For more detailed information please see the articles in this Newsletter by representatives of our various teams. I think after reading their reports you will agree that we at Brecon RFC have a lot to be proud of but that we must continue to move forward if we are to ful l our stated aim, “To be the leading community club in Wales in terms of participation, performance, enjoyment and community engagement.”
