BRECON JAZZ CAMPING
Friday 12th to Sunday 14th August
Brecon Jazz weekend is fast approach and as usual we will be running a campsite at Parc de Pugh, both prior to and during the period of the Jazz. Jazz Weekend
has traditionally provided the club with a vital source of income.
In terms of pro t it is the most important single event in which
the club is engaged. As always, the success of the event depends almost entirely upon voluntary help.
This year we have a new organising group. Kipper (Lyn Parry) and the House Committee, together with Kim and Samantha Howe have already started to prepare for the event and bookings are going well. As the event approaches so help will be essential both in terms of preparation and the actual running of the event over the weekend.
In the week leading up to the event the ground needs to marked out, security fences erected and mobile toilets installed. Over the weekend
we need stewards to organise parking and camping, to control access to the site, to assist with registration, to keep the site clear of rubbish, to keep the shower and toilet areas clean and to assist with security during daylight hours (professional security will be employed overnight).
During the next few weeks Kipper
will be asking for members to make
a commitment to providing help in
the ways described. Please help him and his team so that we can continue operate the Jazz in a safe and effective manner and thus ensure that campers enjoy their experience and the Club, once again, nancially bene ts.
Ron Rowsell.

FIRST TEAM REVIEW
With our rst season in Division 1 now behind us, there is a feeling of satisfaction in the fact that we achieved the season’s goal of maintaining our status in Division 1 but also frustration on what we might have achieved.
It was always going to be dif cult to follow up on the promotion season from Division 2, going into a new league of higher intensity, physicality and the fact that simple mistakes were capitalised on by the opposition. Early injuries to numerous players also affected what previously had been a settled side.
We nished the season with some notable victories against teams like Brynmawr and Bedlinog and those results give us optimism for the season ahead. I would like to thank the players for their all their efforts during the season especially captain Dafydd Thomas in what was an injury ravaged season for him personally.
For the coming season I would like to thank the group of people headed up by Paul Amphlett in their efforts to improve the playing numbers. I know this has been dif cult. A few new players coming in, players from the 2nd XV and players graduating from the youth team will create competition for places and this can only be good. Injuries for example will again be an issue so a big playing squad will be required. For players to reach their full potential there must be as much competition as possible for team places.
Bringing in Martin Keylock as backs coach has to be a big positive and having spoken to him on a few occasions I feel he will bring a lot of bene ts to the senior squad. Martin and I feel that the season ahead can be a successful one providing we learn the lessons from last season and get full commitment from everyone, starting with a good pre-season.
The choice of Ewan Williams as captain for this season was vital. We think we have chosen the right man to lead us. Having spoken to him I know he has good ideas and he will have our full support.
