BRECON RFC
YOUTH TEAM REVIEW
Brecon youth had a very successful 2015/16 season with 24 xtures producing 17 wins
1 draw and 6 losses.
A very encouraging 3rd place was obtained in the Blues BB league which considering the young average age of this youth squad indicates more success to come over the next couple of seasons.
Last year’s disappointment of reaching the Breconshire cup nal only to nd out that Ystradgynlais were unable to honour the xtue was appeased by a magni cent performance against them in the semi- nal with the victory sending Brecon to an eagerly anticipated nal against local rivals Builth Wells.
On a sunny April afternoon in Brecon and in front of a large vociferous crowd both teams played with great purpose and discipline but it was Brecon who came away with a well deserved victory.
The last game of the season saw a brave performance in the Heart of Wales cup nal against Mountain Ash. A very big opposition pack enjoyed the wet, “winter like” conditions which prevented Brecon putting their usual width and tempo onto the game and as a result Mountain Ash ran out winners by 13 points to 3. Brecon battled hard for the full 70 minutes and can be proud how they acquitted themselves in this game never shying away from what was at sometimes a brutally physical encounter.
37 players represented Brecon youth this season with 36 of those players coming through
the mini and junior section and 7 youth players represented the seniors at various parts of the season.
We are looking forward to welcoming a new crop of players from the U16s to summer training and wish all the best to the boys moving on to the seniors this season.
And nally a big thank you to Butch who is joining the seniors coaching team and Murph who has managed the youth team for the last 3 years for all the excellent work you have done for us.
