Brecon RFC look back on the career of one of it’s favourite
sons Ei on ‘Engine’ Davies who passed away peacefully at home on Friday the 25th March 2016.
BRECON RFC
IN MEMORY OF PHILLIP EIFION DAVIES - ‘ENGINE’
Ei on was the fourth of ve children, three boys and two girls of Elwyn and Olwen Davies, he was born into a farming family of Eppynt roots and traditions the legacy of which he inherited in no small measure and was immensely proud of.
During his playing days he was a formidable player and his ability on the eld was held in extremely high regard by all those who coached and played with or against him. Ei on played for Ebbw Vale (Youth and Athletic), Llanwrtyd, Llandrindod, Builth and nally Brecon RFC.
His playing career spanned over 20 years which is no mean achievement given the way he played the game. He successfully captained the Brecon side in 1983 and 1986. Between 1979 and 1986 Ei on was selected on 25 ocassions for the Breconshire squad and was awarded his Breconshire RFC cap which was something he was extremely proud of and a fantastic achievement given the strength of County rugby at that time.
After hanging up his boots Ei on helped for many years on the committee of Brecon RFC and in more recent years he held the position of Vice Chairman which was a tting tribute for his years of unstinting service to the Club.
The large crowd that attended the service to celebrate Ei on’s life bears witness to the way Ei on lived his life and the high regard in which he was held. He is survived by his family and
a huge network of friends and the legacy and fond memories he leaves are testament to the decades of achievement in agriculture, business, sport and his community. His main motivation was to do the best for his family and make things better in his local community, and he certainly did that.
The Club would like to thank and pay tribute to Ei on for his contribution to rugby in this area and particularly his commitment to Brecon RFC over many, many years.
The nal whistle has come far too soon and we will all miss him but sincerely cherish the great memories we have. God bless and rest in peace Engine.
