Fishmonger apprentices eligible
for Master Fishmonger Certification
Have you recently completed a Fishmonger Apprenticeship? If so, the Master Fishmonger Standard wants to hear from you! As an apprentice, you are automatically eligible to become certified under the MFS Recognised Fishmonger tier.
As a Recognised Fishmonger, you’ll join a network of professional fishmongers. With promotional opportunities, as well as access to exclusive events, becoming recognised provides a steady footing to propel your career in the sector.
The Master Fishmonger Standard is managed by the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, who have been helping to uphold standards of fishmongering since 1272. Recognising achievement across all levels, the Standard strives to encourage and enable a high standard of skill and the growth of knowledge about the seafood industry.
Certified fishmongers:
• Receive their certificates at a high-profile award ceremony at the prestigious Fishmongers Hall
• Access exclusive event invitations and promotional opportunities
• Are featured in the MFS fishmonger directory
• Join a network of the UK’s finest fishmongers
• Receive a Recognsied Recognised Fishmonger badge and window sticker

The MFS Awards Ceremony is back, and bigger and better than before.
New to 2020, the MFS Awards’ Ceremony will see recipients of the Master Fishmonger Standard receive their accolades, alongside a new suite of awards designed to showcase the outstanding work of fishmongers and blocksmen from across the country. The annual event, held at the prestigious Fishmongers’ Hall on the 8 June 2020, promises to be a lavish affair, featuring a comedian compere and three-course sit-down lunch.
There are several MFS tiers (Recognised, Craft, Advanced, Master and Companion) which reward excellence across all levels of professional experience, so whether you have two years’ or twenty years’ experience, we have a tier for you.
As a certified fishmonger, you can access a wide range of benefits, such as promotional opportunities, marketing grants, and , freelance work. Last year, MFS candidates had the opportunity to be featured in the MFS calendar, sent to all independent fishmongers across the UK and Master Fishmongers were gifted new merchandise, including pin badges.

  Brand new MFS Awards for 2020
The Master Fishmonger Standard Awards will shine a spotlight on the achievements, expertise and professionalism of the UK’s seafood industry through a series of awards and is open to all working fishmongers, blocksmen, seafood processing companies or retail outlets.
The awards will be announced at the MFS Awards’ Ceremony, to be held on 8 June 2020 at the Fishmongers’ Hall in London. Categories range from recognising commitment to sustainability, engagement with the local fishing fleet, exceptional retail displays and much more.
In addition to the prestige of being crowned the winner, recipients of each award will receive a trophy and sign celebrating their success, as well as a free place on the MFS programme and a marketing grant to help promote their business.
These new awards will be handed out alongside those newly certified under the MFS.
Applications are now open.
It’s easy and free to apply. Simply select the award(s) you wish to apply for and submit the evidence requested. You can apply for yourself or nominate someone else. Shortlisted candidates will be announced in the spring, submit supporting paragraphs, photos or videos alongside their application be- fore the winner is selected by the MFS’s chief examiner and a public vote.
