ALL THAT GLITTERED WAS GOLDEN
It was a golden June evening as the glitterati of the Black Mountains and beyond gathered to celebrate fifty years of rugby at Gwernyfed.
The Anniversary Ball had been long anticipated and no one was disappointed. There have been many memorable sights on the pitch at Trefecca Road but none involving a huge marquee in which 500 guests danced the night away.
Our special guest was right out of rugby’s top drawer. Coach of Wales and the British Lions Warren Gatland gave generously of his time and his opinions as he responded to questions from the audience. Rarely can anyone command absolute silence and attention from so many guests but this was a special man for a special occasion and no one wanted to miss a word. No one was disappointed.
The Ball offered enjoyment and entertainment in spades. The guests were in generous mood and £6,000 was raised for presentation to local charities and good causes. The discussions about games past and future went long into the night, voices well lubricated as was only fitting for the occasion. The big unanswered question was, ‘When is the next one?’
