A Very Magic Moment
November 2019.
2:15 AM. Johannesburg. Lost baggage line. Twelve-
hour delay in London. British Airways disappeared my
bags. Gone. Vanished. Forever. I knew it.
I filled in the lost-luggage forms while Robert, the
event planner and two assistants waited for me.
“No sweat,” Robert said, all smiles. “Just glad you
made it. This is Kayla.”
A silver-haired woman in a blue gingham shirt and
tight white pants with a wide brown belt stroked her
magnificent ponytail and leaned forward.
“Watched all your presentations online. Thrilled to
finally meet you.”
I felt as if my feet had just touched solid ground for
the first time since I left my farm in Canada two and a
