$500 to $10,000 per speech, and lots more if you’re
famous or have a best seller. Corporations, colleges
and associations can make sharing your expertise
in-person a very tempting proposition.
Well-written self-help books by media-friendly
authors typically sell well in the marketplace and
are a favorite of literary agents and publishers.
But here’s the catch. With almost one million
books published in 2014 in the United States alone,
yours can’t be just another book, because anyone
can write and publish a self-help book. Your book
has to be special. It has to stand out from the rest. It
must be different, fresher, more current than what’s
already out there. It needs an appealing voice and a
new approach.
When it comes to writing a book that will grab
readers' attention and fly off the shelves, there are a
few key elements that can make all the difference.
First and foremost, your book needs to tackle a hot
topic - something that's currently relevant and res-
onating with people. This could be a timely issue, a
trending phenomenon, or a universal concern that
people are eager to explore. The topic itself isn't
enough, though; your approach needs to be fresh
and unique, offering a perspective or insight that
sets your book apart from others in the same space.
