"Every person in their life has had a million-dollar
idea," Sara says. "The biggest difference between a
successful idea and a failure is whether or not you get
out and take action.”
We’ve all heard the expression "Don’t burn your
bridges.” When you burn a bridge it means you
destroy all means of retreat: you can only go forward.
Getting caught with your hand in the till or telling
your boss he’s a moron will pretty much destroy your
chances of going back to those particular endeavors.
For the most part it’s good advice but there are
exceptions to every rule. Some bridges need to be
burned: people who put you down, jobs that are
unethical and challenge your integrity, temptations too
hard to resist.
When I changed careers from a fashion
photographer with studios on three continents to a
professional speaker and wrote my first book, I made a
deal with myself. I had to write 1500 words a day
before I could get dressed. From time to time, I’d
accept the odd fashion shoot. I used to do it because I
loved it. Now, I was doing it for the money. The
problem was that after a shoot I’d question why I was
