of us and built considerable fortunes for their origina-
tors. And it all happened thanks to an army of doers who
backed up the original dreamers.
Dreamers and Doers
There are four processes that constitute the core
business model: dreaming, analyzing, persuading,
and controlling. Accordingly there are four types of per-
sonality that businesses are always on the lookout for:
dreamers, to come up with ideas; analyzers, to make sure
the ideas will work; persuaders, to get the ideas appreci-
ated; and controllers, to make sure things get done. Many
successful entrepreneurs embody some or all of these
qualities, while others find it necessary to find a partner
to complete the equation.
Your personality affects both your job choice and your
perceived job performance. Given a choice, people will
usually choose jobs that fit their personality—an outgoing,
sociable person (persuader) will be more likely to suc-
ceed in sales, whereas a more process-oriented, cautious
type (analyst) may be more likely to excel in engineering.
Someone who is assertive and outspoken by nature (con-
troller) will be adept at managing others, while a person
who is less assertive but able to see things from many
angles (dreamer) will be more suited to a creative career.
