next important connec-
tion will be made.
The next week Alexandra phoned me to say she was
having a group of people around to talk about aromather-
apy, and would I like to spend twenty minutes talking about
my book? I agreed and spent a very pleasant evening con-
necting with her group of friends. At the end of the evening,
three of them asked if I would conduct a training workshop
if they put together a group.
They managed to assemble more than forty people and
rented a hall in a local hotel. We had a terrific session. One of
the young female attendees
had brought her cousin to
the event. Two weeks later
the cousin phoned and asked
if I would put on a seminar
for seventy members of his
networking group. I did. One
of the people who attended
that session worked for a meeting planning company. He went
away and recommended me to his company as a speaker.
Two years later, I was the opening keynote speaker at
the AT&T national sales conference, speaking to a capacity
crowd of sixteen hundred people. It was, in their words, “an
outstanding success.” I haven’t looked back since.
Yes, serendipity played a huge role in that string of suc-
cesses, but just as important was the fact that I was ready
to connect when the opportunity came knocking. The
