These high-stakes meetings. The constant pressure
to perform. The fear of failure hanging over her like a
guillotine.
She wasn't alone. Around the table, she saw the
telltale signs. John, the usually unflappable
accountant, was tapping his pen, a nervous tic. Maria,
the marketing director, had a death grip on her coffee
cup, knuckles white. Even Mark, the Energizer Bunny
of stress, had a sheen of sweat on his forehead.
This wasn't just about Project Phoenix. It was
about the entire company. The entire industry. The
whole damn world, it seemed. Everyone was on edge.
Everyone was running on fumes.
But Billie knew, deep down, that while the
external pressures were real, the internal triggers were
the most dangerous. The things that set off the chain
reaction within her. The things that turned a
manageable challenge into a full-blown panic attack.
She scribbled furiously in her notepad, not notes
from the meeting, but her own personal inventory of
stress bombs.
