returned with bandages, antiseptic, and a surprisingly
gentle touch.
"You're… different, Liam," Evelyn said, watching
him clean her cuts.
He looked up. ”I can think again, Doctor. I can
feel. It's… overwhelming."
He paused, his eyes meeting hers. "Thank you."
She nodded, a weary smile touching her lips.
"You're welcome, Liam. Now, we need to figure out
our next move. They'll be looking for us."
Just then, a rhythmic thump-thump-thump echoed
from the street outside.
She froze. It was a helicopter. And it was getting
closer.
"They found us," Liam said, his eyes wide with
renewed terror.
She scrambled to the window, peering through a
gap in the dusty curtains. A searchlight, bright and
blinding, swept across the rooftops.
They had found Silas. They had found the
bookstore.
The "safe house" was already compromised.
She pulled back. They were trapped. No escape.
