DEEP REST
She looked at Liam. His eyes, though still fearful,
held a new spark of determination. He was no longer
the empty shell. He was a man fighting for his life.
"Liam," she said, her voice low, urgent. "I have an
idea. It's crazy. It's dangerous. But it might be our only
chance."
He looked at her. "What is it?"
She pointed to the book. "We need to go deeper.
We need to understand Deep Rest more than they do.
We need to turn their greatest weapon against them."
The helicopter hovered directly overhead, its
powerful rotors shaking the building. The searchlight
pinned the bookstore, bathing it in an eerie glow.
The hunt was on. And they were the prey. But the
prey was about to learn to fight back.
