The Gambit
The Apartment. Under Siege.
The thump-thump-thump of the helicopter rotors
vibrated through the very bones of Silas Thorne’s old
apartment. It wasn't just overhead; it was directly
overhead, a predatory beast circling its prey. The
blinding searchlight swept across the dusty windows,
turning the interior into a strobe-lit nightmare.
"They're here," Liam said, his eyes wide with a
terror that was now fully, agonizingly present. The
apathy that had once shielded him was gone, replaced
by a raw fear of death.
Evelyn didn't need him to state the obvious. She
heard the distant wail of sirens growing closer, not just
police, but the heavy, purposeful vehicles of a
specialized unit.
