man.
"I challenge the status quo with ideas that are
beautiful and user friendly," meant the world to Steve
Jobs. That’s what he did.
How did he do it? By producing computers and
phones, and subsequently much more that met his high
standards.
"We change the world through stories" does mean
the world to the founders of TED talks.
Your Purpose Statement describes WHAT you do,
while your project, job, or calling is the HOW you do it.
Let's take the example of "I crystalize real good" (his
exact words) from the earlier list. These are the words of
a talk-show host in Birmingham, Alabama, who had me
uncover his Purpose Statement on live radio. As he
looked back on his life, he realized he always had a knack
for summarizing. So now he can confidently say "I
crystallize real good." And when someone asks, "How
do you do that?" he can reply, "By interviewing guests
and swiftly summarizing what they've said in ways that
stick in my audience's minds."
Susan (from the previous story) and I both get paid
today for what we used to get into trouble for when we
were younger. And we’re not alone—many of my
