Chapter 31
A Confession
I’d no sooner taken the photo when I heard the click-
clack of a woman’s shoes coming up behind me. They
stopped several rows back, and all went quiet. I was still
holding the prayer book when they started up again.
Then a woman slid in beside me. A whispered "Hello,
Mister Nick” sent shivers down my spine.
As I turned to face the voice, my eyes met the striking
features of someone I vaguely recognized. Her stylish
attire and striking features seemed out of place in the
quiet church.
“Francesca?”
It must be 40 years. Now, I was in double shock.
"It's an unbelievable coincidence," she whispered, her
hand on my arm. "My mother called me to find you just
last night, and then I saw you on TV this morning."
I was speechless.
