Carolina’s gaze stayed sharp on him. “That man
had us cornered. He spared us. That doesn’t
happen.”
“Or maybe,” Jinji said, eyes narrowing, “he
wasn’t looking at us. He was looking at you.”
The silence weighed more than the storm.
