The Truth About Lying
Only the servers humming and the city slowly recovering from a lie Verax had allowed in the name of mercy.
At 12:07, someone knocked.
Heavy.
Three times.
Jinji reached for the pistol Henry had not known she owned.
Claire said, “Absolutely not.”
Jinji said, “I wasn’t going to shoot him.”
“You don’t know who it is.”
“That’s why I was considering it.”
Henry opened the door.
Logan Edwards stood in the hallway.
He looked nothing like the young CFO Henry remembered from Cerulean.
The genius sheen was gone. His suit was wrinkled. His eyes were red. The last seventy-two hours had stripped him down to bone and guilt.
Henry didn’t move. “Logan.”
“I need to come in.” “No.”
Logan swallowed. “I have proof.” “Of what?” “Cerulean.”
