Our dad, Loop resident, Rob Colyn recently
celebrated his 98th birthday! Some of you The sun is out, summer is here,

eye out for each other! The next morning you will have a very large block of
ice with little creatures that need saving. Put it out
in the lawn and give your kids a wooden hammer, let
them break through the ice and save the toys. This has
provided entertainment for my kids many days in a row.
Don’t forget to have them wear glasses or goggles to
               protect their eyes.
After the kids have saved the toys, they will
probably be hungry for a snack. Our next ice activity is
making ice cream in a bag. You will need 1 cup half and
half, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tbsp sugar, ice (of course),
1/4 cup salt, and two Ziploc bags (1 small and 1 large).
In the small bag, pour in the half and half, sugar, and

the large bag, fill it halfway with ice and pour in the salt.
Place the smaller bag inside the large bag and shake,
shake, shake! The shaking process takes about 5-8
minutes, but is very fun for the kids. Once you can see
