INTRODUCTION

This book of Safety & Health Rules and Procedures is your guide for
learning how to work and operate equipment safely while employed by
Vulcan.

Because we never want a Vulcan Materials Company employee or visitor to
be injured at any of our locations, we have provided this handbook to inform
you of standard safety & health rules and procedures to help minimize your
chance of being injured or causing another’s injury. In addition to this
handbook, we will provide you with additional information and instruction
depending on your job responsibilities. Also, you will be required to attend
safety & health training from time to time.

We realize that it would be impossible to write a handbook to cover every
detail and prevent all incidents. However, we at Vulcan Materials Company
are very proud of our safety & health record, and we know from our years of
experience with our business that adherence to the principles outlined in this
handbook will reduce work-related injuries, illnesses and property losses.

Please note that the headings used in this Handbook are not exclusive.
In other words, you are responsible for being familiar with all safety & health
rules and procedures that may apply to the work you are doing at any given
time. For example, if you are regularly assigned to work in an office setting,
but are required to visit the Mobile Equipment Shop as part of your work
duties, you are required to review the rules that apply to the work area that
you will be visiting.

You will help us to prevent Injuries by exercising proper judgment, by being
alert and by following these rules and procedures. This is your personal
responsibility as an employee of Vulcan Materials Company, and, if you are
in a position of authority (for example, supervisor, lead or foreman), it is your
duty to ensure compliance by all those under your area of responsibility.
