measuring-rod of the prophecy still further.

Sixty-nine weeks, or 483 years, were to extend

to Messiah the Prince. Dating from B. C. 457,

they end in A. D. 27. And what event then

occurred? Luke thus informs us: “Now when

all the people were baptized, it came to pass,

that Jesus also being baptized, and praying,

the heaven was opened, and the Holy Ghost

descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon

him, and a voice came from heaven, which

said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am

well pleased.” Luke 3:21, 22; margin, A. D. 27.

After this, Jesus came “preaching the gospel of

the kingdom of God, and saying, The time is
