               the twelve. Of Dan it was said: “Dan shall judge


               his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. Dan


               shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the


               path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his


               rider shall fall backward.” God purposed that


               Dan  should  judge  Israel  righteously.  Keen


               observation,  and  quick  discernment  are


               necessary for a judge. These gifts were given


               to  Dan,  but instead  of using them aright,  he


               was  “a  serpent  by  the  way,  an  adder  in  the


               path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his


               rider shall fall backward.” In other words, he
