CHAPTER 10 - GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT - GRANDDAUGHTERS AND MY SPORTING PHILOSOPHY

It’s great to have a 15-year-old who continues to ensure I will enjoy her company for a number of years. She has unbelievable sporting ability and, she is the one that has played cricket and has given me a lot of enjoyment watching her play. She also has great patience and her footwork and stamina is something to behold.
Even at the age of 15 she has played cricket for Victoria on two occasions against all the States and Territories and more recently gained a place in the Under 18 Victorian Team Squad. In addition to this, she has been selected in the State Soccer squad and has received Victorian colours as well as captaining the Victorian team this year (2018). I sincerely hope that she manages to continue to play sport, even though I suppose one day she will have to make up her mind whether it be soccer or cricket. Naturally I have preference for the latter.
That sums up the grandchildren and I would like to say that my Dad (Pop) also taught me quite a lot, because I used to walk around during the times that Peter Jnr was playing rugby or cricket criticising umpires and referees, but I was never asked to leave the field. when Lara is keeping wicket I watch every single ball and the same applies when she is batting. I walk around the ground, but as I said before, I don’t pass any comments but afterwards we do have a little chat on what went right or wrong.
I suppose if one was summing it up, I thoroughly enjoyed sport and arts and the most enjoyment I have gained, as I said earlier, is playing sport through my grandchildren and I hope they have equally enjoyed having me on the sidelines.
