CHAPTER 18 - INDUSTRY AFFAIRS, ICA AND MY BOARD CAREER TAKES OFF

I certainly did get a lot of satisfaction in the role of CEO of ICA, but as Daphne would say, I don’t think I was ever at home. The job of ICA CEO meant a lot of travelling, including international travelling. One of the get togethers I thoroughly enjoyed chairing was an annual meeting with Peter Costello who was then the Treasurer of the Commonwealth. This was hosted by Concord Insurance Underwriters and the event was never missed by the leaders in the industry.
It was run in an open forum under my Chairmanship and guests could ask any questions they wanted, although I must admit I did make sure the Treasurer knew what was likely to be asked. I lived on the principle that it’s not wise to invite somebody to such a gathering without them knowing the likely topics.
