Chapter 20 - Insurance Industry Reputation - The 1990’s A period of improving industry image
There are some subjects in the insurance industry which seem to go on forever and never get resolved, including workers compensation and privatisation, builders warranty, and flood but there were some major advances that did happen. The NSW CTP market was opened up to private insurers and therefore competition in 1991. Swiftly following that was the privatisation of the GIO in NSW followed successively by all other State and Territory owned insurance companies.
As highlighted earlier, the 1990’s saw the launch of “Building Understanding” campaign which was aimed at the industry itself to sell to our staff the good message that in 99% of the time we do the right thing and go beyond the call of duty to help customers.
The first part of this campaign which also enjoyed the title Partnership 32000 (as the industry then employed 32000 people) was Hunting Heroes.
