NYSDEC Social Media Campaign
The New York State Department of Conservation (NYSDEC)
ran a social media campaign for National Surveyors week to
promote the profession. At NYSDEC, there are 20 licensed
land surveyors based in their Division of Lands and Forests’
Bureau of Real Property. This team is responsible for all DEC
land acquisitions, ensuring boundary lines are established and
maintained, and investigating management issues such as
rights-of-way or easements over state lands. Throughout the
week they highlighted some of their staff surveyors and the
important work they’re doing every day.
NSPS Global Surveyors Day Presentation
Every year on March 21, a professional surveying association
is tasked with picking a Global Surveyor of the Year. For
2022, the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS)
was selected to choose a person with a historical surveying
background to be named with this prestigious honor. After
thorough consideration, NSPS chose Benjamin Banneker for
the selection as the 2022 Global Surveyor of the Year. On
Monday, March 21, NSPS broadcasted a virtual event
commemorating Global Surveyors Day and the Global
Surveyor of the Year presentation honoring Mr. Banneker.
