A special thank you to all that made it out to our annual conference at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in
Verona, NY. Post-conference highlights can be found on pages 16-20. Congratulations to our newest officers who
were officially installed at the conference preceded by a bag pipe procession leading our officers inside the
ballroom. It was a sincere pleasure to see all of our members and friends in-person again!
If you haven’t already, please take our online post-conference survey. Be sure to tell us what you liked about the
conference and where you feel we could improve. It will only take a couple minutes, but you will be helping to mold
the future of our annual event. The survey can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2023-nysaplspostconf
The month of March holds a place in history for our licensees as we celebrate National Surveyors Week. National
Surveyor’s Week is celebrated on the 3rd full week of March annually (this year, March 19-25, 2023). It
encourages our members and fellow land surveying professionals across the nation to promote and publicize the
importance of our profession. You may have seen an email message reminders from our office, information posted
on our website and on the NSPS website, but my question is… how will YOU celebrate?
Will you submit photos in our photo contest? Or visit a nearby high school and share what a typical day in the
life of a surveyor is? Will you get involved with a local Boy Scout troop and lend a hand in achieving their survey
merit badge? Will you collect GPS coordinates for the GPS on Bench Marks program? Do you plan on bringing
your child to work?
Download the Surveyors Week volunteer kit! NSPS has posted a “National Surveyors Week Volunteer Kit”
on their website, www.nsps.us.com, which explains step-by-step how to:
• Request a proclamation
• Talk to kids about surveying
• Get involved with GPS
• Help a local Boy Scout earn the surveying merit badge
• Start a Trig-Star competition started in your area
I’d love to hear your stories and include them in a future issue of the Empire State Surveyor. Please feel free to
email me at amber@nysapls.org with your stories and pictures. If you’d like more information on National
Surveyor’s Week, visit our website, www.nysapls.org or the NSPS website, www.nsps.us.com.
Thank you, as always, for your support!
