We are delighted to announce our plans for the NYSAPLS’ 67th Annual Surveyors Conference and Exhibition,
to be held January 26-28, 2026 at the Saratoga Springs City Center & Hilton Hotel in beautiful downtown Saratoga
Springs, NY. See our center insert for full registration details!
Here’s the latest updates (as of October 15th) from your NYSAPLS’ Committees, Board of
Directors and HQ Staff:
Executive Board: The board met on September 19th. They reviewed the overall association’s finances and
received committee updates from several of the committees (see committee updates below). They also discussed
feedback from presenters and the state board suggested the LS exam review course should be held three to six
months before the exam rather than one week prior, leading to a proposal to move the next course to April 2025,
ahead of the September 2025 exam, and to adjust future scheduling accordingly. Westchester Community College
has requested assistance in compiling a certificate program in Land Surveying. Steve Willard volunteered to lead
support efforts and Jeremy advised alignment with state requirements for survey coursework. The Executive
Board’s next meeting is scheduled virtually, on Wednesday, November 12th.
Board of Directors: The board held their last meeting on September 19th. You can view the minutes of our
board meeting on page 26. Their next meeting is scheduled as a virtual meeting on Friday, November 14th.
Conference Committee: The committee met virtually on October 13th. They welcomed new committee
member, Brie Meisler, who joined as the regional host representative from ENYSLS for the 2028 conference. The
committee discussed plans for the regional judging of the map contest and the upcoming meeting with the 2026
ENYSLS volunteers in Saratoga on November 13th. They reviewed a progress report on the sponsorships
confirmed to date and discussed their annual call list. They decided to book a magician as the entertainment for
the cocktail hour during the installation dinner. The committee also discussed their onsite assignments for the
week of conference. Their next meeting is scheduled for November 13th.
Constitution and By-laws Committee: The committee has not met this month. You can view the latest
revision of the bylaws here. (Be sure to login with your membership credentials to view the page.)
Education Committee: The Education Committee met September 30th and finalized the conference
courses. The committee reviewed topic ideas for the Spring Workshop, to be held virtually, and decided on a
topic. The committee is now working to coordinate dates with the speaker. Once the dates are confirmed, the
committee will announce the Spring Workshop. The committee will meet again in November to discuss topics
for the 2026 First Friday webinars.
Ethics Committee: The Ethical Practices Committee met on October 2nd. They reviewed their current open
cases. They reviewed the PR Committee’s cover letter for their poster campaign in which they are reaching out
to Town & City planners and were satisfied with the wording as written. The committee’s next meeting is scheduled
for November 6th.
Finance Committee: The committee has not met this month. However, all of the committee members are
also members of the executive board which regularly review the budget monthly with staff.
Government Relations Committee: The Government Relations Committee participated in the digital
access roundtable at NYSGISA’s GeoCon on October 8th in Lake Placid. The conference went very well and was
well attended. They recently received a draft from Maureen Reynolds, County Clerk of Tompkins County, who is
assisting in putting together a package for other counties on how to digitize records and find the funding and
resources to do so. The committee will be meeting ahead of the 2026 legislative session to discuss finding
sponsors for their datum legislation.
Membership Committee: The committee has not met this month. They sent out dues reminders to all
unpaid members and will begin follow up phone calls to unpaid members at the end of the month. The committee
has invited the CITY and QUEENS regional presidents to attend a future meeting to discuss their membership
participation. The committee does not have their next meeting scheduled but plans on meeting again soon.
