Highlights from our Members
A few of our friends and members have shared their NSW successes:
Northern NY Association Genesee Valley Land Surveyors Association
of Land Surveyors teamed received a Surveyors Week proclamation from
up with the SUNY ESF Monroe County
Ranger School and Carlson
Software to observe a local
benchmark
“As we approach the end of National
Surveyor’s week 2021, I wanted to take
a minute to say thank you everyone that
took time to meet up with the Ranger
School Land Surveying Technology
Students at John Brown’s Grave in Lake
Placid this past Wednesday.
It was a really good experience and
opportunity for the students. We were able
to observe an existing NGS Benchmark
(John Brown RM1) and log static data
that we plan to send to NGS for hopeful NYSDEC promoted NSW throughout the week
inclusion into the datum converter that on social media and held a Facebook Live Event
they are developing.
A huge thank you goes out to the Northern Regional for hosting and
setting this up, specifically to Scott Alan for helping to plan and promote
the event, to Stacey Allott for allowing the majority of her employees,
as well as herself, to attend and speak with the students, to Dan and
Bob Marvin for bringing all of their employees out and for suggesting a
perfect location, and to Mike Hyman from Carlson for bringing up some
state of the art surveying equipment to demo and to allow the students
to use first hand.
Events like this not only provide a real world perspective for the students,
but also help to showcase the professionalism and comradery of surveyors as
a whole. It is also noteworthy that during the demonstration we did have
a few random people stop and ask what we were doing, which provided
an opportunity to discuss a little about surveying with them, so just more
proof that just being outside and visible can help promote the profession.
I hope you were all able to enjoy/celebrate in some form National
Surveyors Week.”
