EMPLOYEE BENEFITS OVERVIEW
BENEFIT DESCRIPTION
Eligible employees may select one of three medical plans effective first of the month
after 60 days of employment:
Medical (including Prescription Drugs) and • HealthSelect of Texas (POS)
$5,000 Basic Life Insurance • Consumer Directed HealthSelect (CDHP)
• Community First Health Plans (HMO)
Employee also receives a $5,000 life insurance policy at no additional cost; includes
matching AD&D.
Eligible employees may selects one of three dental plans:
• HumanaDental (DHMO)
Dental
• State of Texas Dental Choice (PPO)
• State of Texas Dental Discount Plan
Eligible employees choose to enroll in the State of Texas Vision plan. Co-pay $15.00 for
Vision exam; additional costs depending on type of lens, contacts, and frames.
Employees opting out of medical insurance may be eligible for an Opt-Out Credit

towards dental, vision and/or AD&D premiums.
Plan pays 60% of eligible employee monthly salary as of 9/1 up to 18 weeks after satisfying a

Employee Retirement System of Texas (ERS) Texas Income Protection Plan (TIPP) plan pays
ERS Optional Short-Term Disability 66% of eligible employee monthly salary as of 9/1 up to 5 months after satisfying a 30-
calendar day waiting period or employee has exhausted all accrued sick leave.
Plan pays 60% of eligible employee monthly salary as of 9/1 up to $13,000 after
Alamo Colleges District Long-Term Disability
satisfying a 180 day waiting period or after employee has exhausted all sick leave.
ERS Texas Income Protection Plan (TIPP) pays an additional 10% of eligible employee
ERS Optional Long-Term Disability monthly salary as of 9/1, due to Alamo Colleges District disability 60% already in effect,
after satisfying a 180 day waiting period or after employee has exhausted all sick leave.
Teacher Retirement System is a mandatory defined benefit retirement plan for eligible
Teacher Retirement System (TRS)
employees. Employee contribution is 7.7% and Alamo Colleges District match is 6.8%.
Eligible employee faculty and administrators may elect to participate in the mandatory
Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) ORP, defined contribution retirement plan, in lieu of TRS. Employee contribution is
6.65% and Alamo Colleges match is 6.8%.
Retirement Plan Voluntary - 457 Texa$aver Plan Eligible employee can voluntarily contribute up to $19,000/yr. Over age 50, allowed up
to $25,000. Tax Deferred and Roth options available.
Retirement Plan Voluntary - 403(b) Eligible employee can voluntarily contribute up to $19,000/yr. Over age 50, allowed up
to $25,000. Tax Deferred and Roth options available.
Eligible employees are covered for an amount equal to their annual salary as of 9/1
Alamo Colleges District Term Life Insurance/AD&D rounded up to the next thousand dollars at no cost; includes matching AD&D.
Eligible employees can purchase an amount up to 4 times their annual salary (up to
ERS Optional Term Life Insurance
$400,000) as of 9/1 rounded up to the next thousand dollars; includes matching AD&D.
Eligible dependent insurance for coverage up to $5,000 per dependent; includes
ERS Optional Dependent Life Insurance matching AD&D.
ERS Optional Accidental Death & Dismemberment Eligible employees can choose between $10,000 and $200,000 AD&D insurance in
Insurance (AD&D) increments of $5,000 for employee only or employee/family coverage.
Comprehensive eligible Employee Assistance Program including: Work/Life, Health/
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Wellness, Short-term counseling, Resources/referrals for employee and dependents.
