Meet a Resident

Ruben Iglesias

Ruben was born in Colonia, a coastal town in
Uruguay in South America.
Since he was very little he was fascinated by cars,
trucks and motorbikes, and at the age of seven
his father taught him how to drive his truck. Since
then, he would spend countless hours watching
his father fix his vehicles and helping him. His
father also introduced him to car racing, taking
him to the local car races on weekends.

When he was a teenager, Ruben and four friends
formed a rock and roll band, playing Beatles
music. The band was called The Fire Birds. They
used to play every weekend at different clubs in
their hometown. Ruben and son Martin during a break in a race in 1983
Ruben met his future wife, Carmen, at the age of
15. She was one of a group of girls always
following the band around to see them play.

In 1970, at the age of 18, Ruben married Carmen
and they decided they wanted to see the world
together. Their first port of call was Australia,
mainly because they had friends here and they
thought they could earn some money before
continuing their travels. After two years living in
Australia they decided they would make Australia
their home while they pursued their love for
travelling. During their 53 years of marriage they Ruben racing at Wakefield Park NSW
have travelled all over the world many times.
For the Diary
At the same time Ruben fulfilled his passion for
speed by racing cars in Australia and every year In addition to our regular weekly activities
for several years in Las Vegas, USA. He has a shelf we have, visiting entertainers, Laughter
full of trophies that Carmen cleans once a month. Boss program, Dance Tutors, Armchair
Travel and Hills Pet Buddies. Here are some
Ruben has one son, Martin, and two events for September, October &
granddaughters who call him "the best abuelo November.
