constantly adapting her designs to suit the occasion. She started off

creations. Elaine married her first husband Max when she was 21 and

them to purchase a pharmacy in Como. Unfortunately, six months after
5 Nov Valerie they purchased the pharmacy her husband Max passed away in his early
30’s. This was a horrible time for Elaine but the with the help of family
7 Nov Gwendoline and friends she was able to pick herself up and get back to work for an
accountant who taught her invaluable lessons.
17 Nov Delore
Elaine was blessed to meet her second husband Lyle who together with
Elaine set up a business supplying electronic studio equipment to the
film, TV and broadcasting industry. Over the next 14 years Elaine and
Lyle worked long hours seven days a week building up their business.
Lyle even went to the Academy Awards one year. They travelled the
world together and purchased a home in Honolulu their favourite part of
the world that brought them so much pleasure.
Elaine loved swimming and was a strong swimmer who swam in the
same swimming group as Dawn Fraser, she to this day still enjoys
swimming but at a slower pace with the Bayswater Belles. As Elaine’s
parents got older and they were not able to live on their own, Elaine and
her husband moved her parents in with them. In 1983 her husband’s
health deteriorated and they sold their successful business which
allowed Elaine to get back into sewing. Her interest in machine
embroidery took her sewing skills to new levels. Elena, Elaine’s carer
whom she met when Elena was 17 years old has being doing Elaine’s
hair since she was 17. She is still doing her hair today and it is one of the
highlights of Elaine’s days as after she gets her hair done, they grab a
glass of wine or a coffee and enjoy watching a movie together in the
Club Lounge. Elaine can be as quiet as mouse around Bayswater Gardens
at times but is very kind hearted and full of conversation and loves the
concerts and bus outings that Bayswater Gardens has to offer.
