June in the Oundle Firefly dinghies at Rutland Water. This event was very kindly arranged by Richard Lowndes, Master in Charge of Sailing. There were a number of OOs who were forced to cancel at quite short notice and this meant that we were not able to field a full team. The School were kind enough to provide some ringers for us and everyone had an enjoyable afternoon of sailing. We are hopeful that we will be able to provide a full team next year and challenge the very skilled group of School sailors. Many thanks to all the pupils and School staff who made this event possible.

SHOOTING
By Giles Hall (L 09)
In March the OO Rifle Club (the Troubleshooters) competed against the School at the annual .22 match. It was a great afternoon and competition was fierce. However, despite the OOs bagging the best shot (Giles Hall) of the day, the School won 871-860.
In May there was a second match against the School at Elmington at distances of 300 and 500 yards. The OOs won with fantastic performances from both Peter Seebohm (Sc 02) and Phil de Voil (G 86), who scored three possibles between them (all bulls-eye shots). Thanks must go to the School’s shooting coach, Si Pearson, and his team for doing an amazing job on the day. Also, thanks to Matthew Lane (LS 81) for providing a bountiful supply of strawberries and for David Habershon (Ldr 68) for organising the OOs on the day.
In July the Troubleshooters entered three teams in the annual schools’ veterans’ match at the Imperial Meeting at Bisley, which is shot at a range of 500 yards and held after the Ashburton Shield. We missed out on first place by just one V- bull point, coming second to Old Greshamians (250V39 to 250V40). However, Steve Postins (Ldr 86) did win the
James Duncalfe (C 10), Will Alms (C 10), Simon Blackburn (Ldr 98), Kate Robinson (W 93) and Nick Brown (St A 78) competing at the Arrow Trophy last October
individual tankard of the day. The match was followed by a meal with the current School shooting team and the Troubleshooters giving prizes to the School’s best shot, best new shot and most improved shot. Congratulations to all.
The veterans’ match was followed by the main Imperial International competition. This year seven OOs entered and the OO Club generously sponsored two School leavers, Charles Shelley (S 18) and Alex Richardson (L 18). Steven Thomas (G 69) finished 16th overall in the grand aggregate, while Phil de Voil and Steven narrowly missed out on silverware in two shoots, losing out on tie shoots. Stuart O’Brien (C 96) teamed up with Phil to finish second in the Fulton Pairs competition. However, there was some silverware for the OOs. Steve Postins won the 1,000-yards Stickledown competition and Phil won the P.W. Richardson 500-yards competition. Well done to all. The experience will hopefully inspire future young shots from the School to come up through the ranks.
Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the Troubleshooters. There will be a competition in May, followed by drinks and dinner in the Great Hall. Partners are more than welcome. Numbers will be limited, so if you want to attend, please let Jane Fenton (OO Club Secretary) or me know. I can be contacted at hall_gpr@hotmail.com.
