HEAT
What is the definition of heat?
e use the term “heat” in everyday life as if we knew
what we meant. But the term is often used
inconsistently, so it is important for us to define heat
clearly, and to clarify the phenomena and concepts
related to heat.
Heat is defined as a process of transferring energy across the boundary
of a system because of a temperature difference between the system
and its surroundings. It is also the amount of energy Q transferred by
this process
Such is the case, for example, when
you place a pan of cold water on a
stove burner. The burner is at a
higher temperature than the water,
and so the water gains energy by
heat.
