Method Statement

               Wear personal protective clothing.

               Contaminated waste must not be handled.

               Sharps must be placed in designated rigid containers.

               Clinical or hazardous wastes must be removed in accordance with a strict code of
               practice.

               Obtain help or use lifting gear when handling heavy wastes.

               Tasks

               1     Put on personal protective clothing.

               2     Assemble equipment and check for safety.

               3     Place warning signs.

               4     Identify wastes to be cleared.

               5     Collect waste from bins and place in correct plastic sacks.

               6     Report any needles (sharps) found other than in designated containers, having
                     first labelled the receptacle and placed it in isolation to await instructions.

               7     Remove cardboard, cartons, glass, tins and other items to the correct collection
                     point and make ready for collection.

               8     Obtain help or use lifting gear when handling heavy wastes.
               9     Prepare cleaning solution according to manufacturer’s instruction, adding
                     detergent to water.
               10    Clean surrounding areas and waste bins.

               11    Reline waste bins if appropriate.

               12    Report any signs of infestation.
               13    Clean equipment and check for safety.

               14    Return equipment, warning signs and materials to store.
