NETWORKING
4 NETWORKING ACTIONS:
1) Give: When you first meet people think how you
might help them and always follow up on requests
for help, How can you be of service to others and
help people get what they want and need, when
they want and need it.
2) Connect Others: Regularly look through your
network and seek to introduce two people who do
not know each other but ought to.
3) Vital Few: Imagine you got laid off from your job
today or that you are helping a recent graduate
looking for work. Who are the 10 people you'd e-
mail for advice? Don't wait – invest regularly in
those relationships from now.
4) Referrals: Set a goal to ask one person for an
introduction/ referral each week. Make it easy for
your network to help you by being really specific
on why you want this connection or the challenge
you need help with. In so many cases, it isn’t that
people don’t want to refer you, it is that they are
busy and consumed with the things going on in
their life to think about how to help you or help
other people. Guide and support them.
Networking is simply the cultivating of mutually
beneficial, give and take, win-win relationships.
It works best, however, when emphasizing the
‘give’ part. Bob Burg. 31
