President’s Message, Continued
We have a plan for monitoring and building relationships that will pave the
road for what we need to do when the time is right. We will be proactive
and p atient. We will do the in-between work that isn’t exciting but needs
to be done. And we will learn to educate the public better.
But what can you do? Let me suggest two things to start:
1. We’re going to put a big bright complaint button on our website.
We need to collect all the bad actor information that we can as
proof that we need licensing to protect consumers. Use it to let us
know what you see. Let others know about it, if you see a situation
where consumers have been wronged by bad investigators.
2. Talk to your legislators and let them know that you’re a private
investigator and need support for getting our license back. It might
sound uncomfortable, but I found it to be very easy. Go to Find My
Legislator page (https://leg.colorado.gov/find-my-legislator) and
put in your street name. You’ll get the email and webpage for your
Senator and Representative. Go to their website and call them.
Send an email stating the same message (really, doing both helps).
If you can get more involved, please check out our various committees
that you can join (most of the work is done by email and maybe some
Zoom meetings). Together, we can protect our profession, and each other.
