Mount Sinai Hospital: A Century of Purpose,

               Equity, and Community Investment

Founded in 1919, Mount Sinai Hospital has spent more than 100 years delivering compassionate, high-quality care to
Chicago’s most underserved communities. Now a cornerstone of the Sinai Chicago health system, the hospital continues its
proud legacy of advancing dignity, inclusion, and health equity across generations. This enduring commitment was recently
recognized by the Lown Institute, an independent healthcare think tank, which ranked Mount Sinai #1 in Illinois and #4 among
more than 1,800 hospitals across 20 states for “fair share” community investment, contributing millions in financial assistance
and public health programs that directly benefit the communities it serves.

A 319-licensed bed, acute care safety-net teaching hospital and Level I Adult Trauma Center, Mount Sinai provides a broad
spectrum of medical, surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and behavioral health services, including crisis stabilization. The
Emergency Department cares for approximately 41,000 patients annually. Its Labor and Delivery unit, supported by a Level III
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, welcomes over 1,600 newborns each year, offering advanced care for high-risk obstetric patients
and critically ill or premature infants.

Mount Sinai also plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals. The hospital supports four
ACGME-accredited residency programs in family medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, and pharmacy, as well as four
fellowship programs. Sinai Chicago’s mission reaches through an integrated network that includes Sinai Children’s Hospital,
Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, Sinai Medical Group, Sinai Community Institute, and the Sinai Urban Health Institute. This
system delivers emergency and specialty care, nationally recognized research, public health initiatives, and community-based
services. From maternal and child wellness to chronic disease prevention and housing access, Sinai develops bold, community-
rooted strategies to reduce health disparities and improve lives.

At the heart of Sinai’s impact is a leadership philosophy grounded in service, integrity, and equity. Leaders uphold the highest
ethical standards and pursue excellence through accountability, innovation, and best practices. They foster an inclusive culture
that values collaboration, honors diversity, and treats every individual with dignity and respect. Above all, safety is paramount,
ensuring a secure, supportive environment for patients, caregivers, and staff.

“As Sinai, we believe healthcare is a right- not a privilege for the few,” said Dr. Ngozi Ezike, President and CEO of Sinai Chicago.
“We know we can only be as strong as our most vulnerable, and we are proud to stand with our communities as partners in health

and healing.” Across generations, Mount Sinai Hospital has embodied what it means to lead with purpose, serving patients, entire
               communities, and investing in humanity.
