Ulos Woven Fabric
Ulos woven fabric is a typical woven fabric for the
Batak people. Ulos has a very important function and
meaning. Various traditional ceremonies such as birth,
marriage, death, and other rituals are never carried
out without ulos. Regarding color, ulos cloth is always
dominated by three colors, namely red, black and
white. At this time ulos has begun to be in demand by
people outside the Toba Batak tribe, the proof is that
many ulos have been used as raw materials for
making clothes, suits, bags, wallets and the like. Not
only limited to the results of cultural arts crafts, Ulos
Batak cloth is also full of meaning and significance.
Most Batak people consider Ulos woven cloth to be a
symbol of affection, a symbol of position, and a
symbol of communication in the Batak indigenous
people. Ulos is very attractive with various natural
colors which are dominated by black, red, blue or
white and decorated with various woven gold or silver
threads.
