Philosophy

From the various types of Ulos that exist, the meaning

and function of Ulos cloth from the past until now has

not changed, except for the variations of Ulos that are

adapted to socio-cultural conditions. The time of giving,

who gives and who receives, the type of ceremony, all

determine the type of Ulos used.

Besides being useful as a body warmer when the cold

hits, Ulos is often considered a talisman which is

believed to have magical powers so that it can protect

the wearer's body from evil spirits. The colors in the

Ulos cloth actually have their own meanings:

The white color on Ulos Batak symbolizes Holiness

and Honesty.

Red color symbolizes Heroism and Courage.

Yellow color symbolizes Wealth and Fertility.

Black color symbolizes Grief (Sadness)

From a different point of view, broadly speaking, there

are four values that can be taken from Ulos Batak

cloth, namely Local Wisdom, Faith, Rules and

Compassion.
