About Tanisha Edwards
So proud of you all wanting to become a owner and open these homes to
help people in need. I remember when I first started back in 2012 . I was
nervous because I didn't have any information or people to go to and ask
for help. There weren't any courses back then either. Then I finally had
spoke with a fosterparent whom happened to be my neighbor from
California. She had informed me that I would be a great fosterparent and
that I should own my own Group Home. She was so serious but I wasn't . I
figured I'm a Clinical Research Nurse and this was my calling , but
unfornately God had other plans. So the next day I remember calling the
Licensing Department and the different Agencies in my area. The
information that everyone was giving had me so overwhelmed, I was like
this is too much. The next week the Application Packet came in through
the mail and I set it to the side and didn't want to do it. But then God
spoke to me and told me to not give up. So I decided to look at the
application packet one more time. As I looked at everything it took me
about 1 ½ hours to halfway complete. So then I started doing a page or
two each day for 5 days totaled. So then I submitted my information into
the Agency and I heard back from them two weeks later. The case
manager explained to me the next steps which was to get the background
check and my fingerprints done. So I made an appointment with the DPS
and that took another 2 more weeks to come back. Then the case
manager gave me info to call two other Foster Group Home so that I
could ask questions and they could help me understand how to do
everything. The next day I called both Foster Group Home parents, and
sure enough they didn't even want to talk to me . Luckily for me
the neighbor from California was a godsend and she helped me get
started every step of the way. The reason that we are offering this book is
because we want to help others get through this process. Now I own
Licensed Homes and have Unlicensed Homes regulated by the city as well.
I have a mixture of populations from aged out foster teens, adults with
mental issues, ex offenders , and women suffering from Domestic
Violence. The types of homes Rapid Rehousing, Supportive, Transitional
and Foster Group Home.
