8. Polynomial Functions
8.1. Graphing polynomials
A standard polynomial is usually given by
f(x) = anxn + an-1xn-1 +........ao where ao, a1.....an are all constants.

Depending on the degree of the polynomial ‘n’, a straight line can intersect it at a maximum of
‘n’ points.
The maximum number of turning points of the graph is n – 1.
Now, look at the graphs of all the even-degree polynomials and the graphs of all odd-degree
polynomials. It’s the degree and the coefficient, which helps in determining the shape of the graph.
