candlestick fell and not a person. Slowly, the two of you make your way to the top of the stairs, which feels a lot more like a death trap than a staircase now. There’s no door at the other end, just an opening onto a small platform. From here, the only way to go is either back down the stairs or walk on the rafters. A small window off to the side allows some moonlight to illuminate the area, but just enough to see. Looking down, you realize that you can’t see the ground. It’s just darkness.
Without hesitation, the man crosses one of the rafters and sits under the soft beam of light from the window. Getting comfortable, he opens a book and starts reading. So that’s what he was holding when he walked into the library. You choose to stay firmly on the platform, which really is only a few feet away. Sitting down, you watch the man as he reads. You couldn’t get a good view of his face before, so this is a good opportunity to do so. His eyes are two different, very distinct colors. His right eye is red, and it reminds you of freshly drawn blood. On his left, the
eye was the same color as molten gold. Gold eyes were the signature color the royal family had, but there aren’t any records or portraits with someone having a red eye. Not that you can recall, anyway. So who are you looking at?
