DESIGN FOR FELINES Washington, DC
DESIGN COMMUNICATION II | SPRING 2016
During my freshman year in college, I
designed a cat shelter and led my team of
classmates in building it for the Washington
Humane Society’s “Design For Felines: Giving
Community Cats Shelter” Competition. The
venue was The Blind Whino. Our design
studio professor asked us to think creatively,
and challenged us to design a cat shelter for
cats, and not primarily for the appeal of their
human counterparts.
This Is Me!
A precedent for my design was the “Catissa 4 Storey
Cat House”, picture at left. I based the interior sleeping
space of my design off of the Catissa design, with their
permission. I chose this design as a precedent because
of how comfortable the cats in the product photo’s
looked, and thought DC cat’s could enjoy that comfort
as well.
