    Tall & Tiny: Nature’s Extremes
1 x 60’, 2018, HD
‘Untamed Romania’ celebrates Romania’s astounding natural beauty and sheer diversity of wild animals. Vast mountains, ancient forests and expansive wetlands provide undisturbed habitats to many of the continent’s iconic creatures. From the forested slopes of the Carpathian Mountains where bears, wolves and lynx roam free, to the wind blown waters of the Danube Delta where pelicans take to the skies. We reveal how the country’s creatures adapt to the varying seasons, and how forests in particular are crucial to their existence. Romania’s forests and wetlands are some of the last strongholds of Europe’s wildlife. However, the last of the continent’s true wilderness is in danger. Illegal logging slowly erodes the ancient forests. Unlicensed hunting and fishing could devastate entire species, destroying the delicate relationships they share with their environment forever.

We know that whales share knowledge amongst themselves. Now, it seems they communicate on a much more sophisticated level than previously anticipated. Together with renowned film maker Rick Rosenthal we embark on a wonderful journey: to make first contact with a new mammal culture – the culture of the whales.

Tremendously tall or ridiculously small. Meet giant birds that can’t fly and even bigger mammals that defy gravity. There is the brush turkey with its outrageously large feet – and the obscure – giant African bullfrogs challenging each other for their offspring! On mass, termites become fierce defenders, schools of anchovies become impenetrable and we find out that much on Earth that appears gigantic is made up or nourished by the smallest of the small.

The African Baobab is one of the largest living things in the world, an icon of the African landscape, instantly recognisable, mysterious and intriguing. It is the world’s biggest flowering plant and the largest succulent plant on earth, associated with myths and legends. This is the tree that many African people believe to be the home of ancestral spirits. It is important to the indigenous people as a source of food, fibre and medicine and is now being hailed as an African ‘superfruit’ and as a ‘dryland crop for the future’. This film is the fascinating history and overview of the remarkable Baobab.
