Owls – we’re captivated by their beauty and intrigued by their air of mystery. This stunning series uncovers their secret life as never seen before, using a special camera rig to follow families of owls in a wild corner of rural Essex, through winter, spring and summer. There’s joy and tragedy, as they battle starvation, mate, and raise their young. Finally, we follow the baby owls as they transform from cute bundles of fluff into fully-fledged adults, one clumsy leap at a time.

Giant prehistoric spiders the size of dinner plates seek kinky love in the dark. As the world rapidly descends into the next period of global mass extinction, a message of hope comes from an unlikely hero: a creature, often unfairly reviled, that has survived prior mass extinctions and climatic change in a magical ecosystem hidden beneath the World Heritage mountains of one of the world’s last great wildernesses. Award-winning cinematography documents the 25th anniversary of scientific research into animals that outlasted the dinosaurs, survived the splitting of the continents and have endured the entirety of human civilisation in Australia’s deepest caves. Journey through the visually stunning wilderness of Tasmania to an underworld that few people have seen and celebrate the wonder of an ecosystem that has preceded us and may still outlast us.
Moths and butterflies have been flying around the planet for over 130 million years. Today, an estimated 28,000 species inhabit the globe. We follow their amazing cycle from egg to caterpillar, to chrysalis, and onto the miraculous emergence of a beautiful winged creature. Moths, butterflies and caterpillars seem barely more than little packets of protein, but they have evolved a fascinating range of disguises and tactics to trick their predators. In South America, a butterfly has struck a deal with local ants. The ants are ‘baby-sitting’ the butterfly’s larvae; in return, the larvae are feeding the ants with a special secretion. Scientists are beginning to understand how butterflies and moths see, how they avoid their predators, and why their flight technique is so different from that of birds.
